Limestones turn twenty, still rock solid

Twenty years after the Limestones were founded by a group of guys in Ellingson, the group has come pretty far from its doo-wop beginnings singing at such prestigious events as the end-of-the-year chemistry department meeting. The male a cappella group has evolved into a wildly popular act here on the Hill, now favoring arrangements of modern popular music and performing in the Pause to a crowd that lined all the way up the stairs of Buntrock before the doors opened.
The Limestones, campus' favorite pretty boys, kicked off their 20th anniversary year with a bang at last Saturday's wildly successful fall concert. The show also provided an opportunity for the group to officially introduce its fledgling members to the St. Olaf community.
Returning Limestones Charlie Stuckey '10, Jake Uban '10 and group manager Andy Shetka '09 were joined by Paul Johnson '09, Justin Luthey, Isaac Lewis-O'Connor and Matt Sander, all '11.
The Limestones are well known for their popularity with the ladies on campus, but Sander might be taking that to a new level. Upon his introduction, a lipstick-emblazoned bra shot onto the stage at his feet accompanied with loud, mostly female cheers. Unfortunately, girls, Sander is taken, and accordingly kicked the bra aside, humbly ignoring his adoring female fans.
The repertoire of the show included some old favorites, such as Switchfoot's "On Fire" with Stuckey soloing and crowd pleaser "Crazy," originally by Gnarls Barkley and featuring a solo by Uban. There were a number of new arrangements, none of which failed to uphold the Limestones' stellar musical reputation. Some crowd favorites included Jason Mraz's "Geek In The Pink" featuring Shetka, Bill Withers' classic "Ain't No Sunshine," sung by new Limestone Lewis-O'Connor, and Hellogoodbye's catchy "Here (In Your Arms)" with another solo by Shetka. The traditional group song, "Malt-O-Meal," was transformed with a phenomenal "Lion King" version featuring Uban that had left the crowd cheering for an encore, which they received in the form of D.C. Talk's "In the Light."
