Student discovers SGA office

Early Wednesday afternoon Erick Havenoson ‘11 stumbled across a room in Buntrock he had never seen before.

"I was just trying to mail my applications to med school, law school and nine summer internships working at a Bible camp and I happened to turn around," he said.

What Havenoson discovered was another world of activity that he never knew existed.

"There were people running everywhere and yelling at each other. I wonder why they have their own office," he said. "There was even a ginger kid who seemed to be in charge of everything."

When informed that these were the elected officials that the student body had chosen to run the school, he was surprised. Havenoson was even more surprised that there was a ginger at St. Olaf, and that he was in charge of this so-called student government.

"They get their own office? Really? I guess it keeps them out of trouble," Havenoson said.

Havenoson is not the only one who was ignorant about the location of the seat of elected power at St. Olaf. When polled, 85 percent of the student body did not know where the SGA office was, 13 percent thought it was located in the third floor girls bathroom and two percent were actually in SGA.

When asked if they would like to know where the office actually was, most replied that they would, but immediately lost interest when the location was revealed to not have a secret wine cellar. Most students were content to go on their way still oblivious of the focal point of power just steps away from were they get their packages.

As for Havenoson? He might wander in some day.

"But only because I heard a rumor that they are so desperate for visitors that they give each one free candy," he said. "But I'll be angry if they give me a Three Musketeers."
