NAME: Chris Conklin ‘11 SPORT: Men's Golf
HOMETOWN: Eden Prairie, Minn.
MAJORS: Physics and Math
FAVORITE CLASS: The pilot course for the Science Conversation
HONORS: The MIAC named Conklin golfer of the week after an impressive sixth-place finish at the Wartburg Invite.
WHY I CAME TO ST. OLAF: Seven of my relatives are alums, it was the best school I got into, and I was looking forward to the new science building.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT AS AN OLE ATHLETE: Playing an intense game of pool basketball with the team at a hotel the night before a tournament was memorable, but if you want something on the course, I will never forget when Billy Utter ‘11 and I shot the low for the day on the last day of conference last fall.
FAVORITE CAF FOOD: Omelets at breakfast (if I get up early enough to have one).
MOST MOVING INSPIRATIONAL SPORTS MOVIE: "Miracle"
FIRST TIME ON THE COURSE: I come from a golfing family, so I've played my whole life. When I was little, my dad and I would make pretend holes in the back yard, and we'd play there.
MOST RIDICULOUS OBSTACLE ON A MINI-GOLF COURSE:
The anthill holes where the hole is right at the apex of a mound have to be the most ridiculous. You can be there for hours. Also, windmills or anything else that moves cause trouble. I like tunnels and water though.
NEXT UP: Though the golf team has wrapped up the season, Conklin will return next year as a senior "driving" toward graduation and a few wins.
