Original musical event to premiere in Haugen Theater

“Betwixt the burn and the burnt before, lay sunken men and failed loves.”

“Obsidian,” by Iain Carlos ’20 an original musical that has been in development for about a year and a half, will premiere in Haugen Theater on Friday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public. The performance will be approximately one hour in length.

The production is the result of a Magnus the Good Collaborative Fellowship project between director Aaron Lauby ’19 and Professor of Theater Karen Peterson Wilson ’77.

“Obsidian” is the first play outside of Chicago to be created using “the Process” developed by renowned theater company “The New Colony.” This involved a highly collaborative rehearsal process in which improvisation and devising are incorporated into the playwright’s framework, which is curated and solidified over time.

The musical centers around an organized crime family and features the acting talents of Berit Niederlucke, Emi Hinds ’18, Ian Sutherland ’18, Kaylin Finstad ’20, Logan Luiz ’20 and Zach Besky ’18.
