“Psychology in Art” seeks submissions

The St. Olaf Psychology Department is currently seeking submissions for its first ever “Psychology in Art” competition. The contest is open to all members of the St. Olaf community, not just pysch majors.

Interested students should submit original works (old or new) based on psychology, or connected to psychological themes. Entries are due at noon on Monday, April 30. Submitted works will be judged by psychology department faculty, as well as a representative from the art/art history department.

Finalists will be announced on May 7, who will present their works for a second round of judging on May 14. In this second round, psychology students and faculty will cast ballots to choose the overall winner of the competition.

Winner(s) of the competition will have their artwork displayed in the psychology department’s display case outside RNS 150 for one full year. Additionally, the first-place winner will receive a $150 cash prize and second-place will get $100.

To be eligible for the “Psychology in Art” competition, must be available for display from May 21, 2108 to May 20, 2019 and be able to fit in to the 92 inch by 62 inch by 15 inch display case.

Contest entries should be emailed to Pschology AAA Darla Frandrup at frandrup@stolaf.edu. Entries should include up to three digital photos of the submitted work, a brief bio of the the artist (name, class year, major[s] and concentration[s] and hometown) and a description of the work, including title, medium, year of creation, dimensions and an explanation of how the piece ralates to psychology or connects to psychological themes.
